I recently purchased a new hot tub. The tub arrived and it only requires 30 amps.
The electrician hooked it up to 50 amp breakers (outside box and inside on the main) Is this safe??

If the 50 GFI is outside, you can change Panel Breaker to a 30 AMP.
What do you have and where.

The circuit is per code, but needs to comply with the instructions for the tub.

This also assumes the 50 amp circuit is wired with #6 copper wire.

I bet the wire is sized for 50 amps so he installed it because of that. Was the circuit existing or did he install it? As long as the wire is sized for the larger breaker then this is perfectly fine.

I disagree with you. You cannot protect a 30 amp circuit with a 50 amp breaker.

The delay in the breaker tripping could get someone killed.

A 30 amp circuit needs a 30 amp breaker.

Wire sized for the larger Breaker would be #6(or larger).

If the tub mfg. specifies that the tub should be on a 30 amp circuit, change the breaker. The wiring is fine.
