    How do shower diverters work

There are several types of shower diverters. Some are in the valve body and others are in the tub spout. Which kind are you asking about? All of them serve one purpose, and that is to close off water to the spout and direct it up to the shower head. Cheers, Tom

Do you have a tub now? How is it plumbed . Typically a hand held shower has a shut off valve that closed the fixed shower head. If you have a tub and shower now, you don't need another diverter.
