My house is new construction. I have three toilets that each shoot water up before they flush down. It is to the point of water coming out of the toilet and onto the seat. The plumber came today and snaked one downstairs. There was no blockage or anything. He said, because it was occurring with all three, the problem was the brand of toilet that I have. His answer sounds a bit ridiculous to me. I think it is a larger issue that he doesn't want to deal with. (proper venting or something?) Would new toilets shoot water up before flushing down, seems a bit unsanitary.

Given the type of toilet it would be much easier to tell. But some toilets are designed to shoot water pressure to force the sewage down the drain rather than letting it happen due to gravity. The fact that its actually bouncing out of the toilet could indicate too much pressure. This may be able to be regulated by the valve under the toilet.

I can't imagine any other reason other than those that would indicate overflowing, not necessarily spraying.

You're thinking of a siphon jet as opposed to a gravity one. But niether one will shoot up water. When that happens we call that a bidet.
Scotty, You have a partial clog in the drainage line that services the toilets. Let me explain what's happening. You flush a john, The discharge picks up speed and, bangs into the partial clog in the line and starts to rebound back pushing a bubble of air ahead of it. The bigger the bubble of sewer gas the higher the water will bounce up. Your plunber missed something when he snaked the line. Call him back to complete the job. Good luck, Tom

drechslerscott used the word "shoots" to describe the way the water behaves. It reminded me of a toilet where I worked. It had a jet on the back part of the bowl that shot straight down it into the drain. The drain never hand more than a couple of inches of water in it, and the jet shot with such force that the water would bounce up and sometimes splash on the seat.

Thank you very much. I asked the neighbor who has the same brand of toilet (new track housing development) and his toilet does not bubble at all. I will call the guy again to get him to come back. Thanks
