    Tileing over Drylock concrete floor
My basement floor has drylock painted on it. It is not very thick. One coat probably. My question is can I put ceramic tile over it without having to take it off. It is very rough texture, almost hurts to walk on bare footed. Very gritty. Thanks for your input.

EW. I would not recommend tiling over drylock. Even floor levelers don't like this stuff. My suggestion is to take it off before tiling. It is important that the thinset has a proper bond, and anything preventing that (like drylock) will create a problem. Can you scrape a portion off? Scrape an area off and see if you can manage to do this first.

I will try to scrape it off and see what will happen. Hopefully it won't be too difficult. If all else fails I have heard of a special membrane you can buy to put over the concrete/sealed floor.

Just do it nothing will happen unless you want to waste a bunch of time and break your back. You can tile on plywood and that moves a lot more than drylock. Plus it's a floor. The weight of the floor will keep it down.

I know this is an old post, but since J. Hlomes posted to it today I wanted to point out that the advice given by cyberheater was inaccurate!

Check out this link for information regarding tiling over drylock... ;)

Can you direct me to the UGL Drylok product that can be used for basement floors? I don't know of one for that purpose.
