    Should I get a new furnace/blower before Jan 1?
I live in Texas. I bought me house new in 1986. I had to replace the outdoor unit (compressor) about 10 years ago. I have never replaced the furnace/blower, so it is about 24 years old. My AC man said the compressor (American Standard) is a great model and should last a long time. Because of the age, he suggests I replace the indoor furnace/blower before Jan 1 so that I could still get freon. Seems like a good idea. He thought it would be 2 or 3 thousand dollars. Anyone have any opinions.

Freon (Dupont trade name for refrigerant) will be available after January 1st so I do not have any idea why he said that except to sell you a new unit.

If the equipment you have is older and you decide to replace it for energy conservation purposes since the newer equipment is more efficient then I could understand buying new equipment other than that keep running what you have now if it is in operable condition.
