My 13 year old Lhasa Apso has all of sudden started pooping in the floor, overnight, and during the day while me and the wife are at work. He is a good dog that has never had this problem, he never pee's in the floor either. Nothing has changed, same food, same schedule, no new kids, no new dogs, nothing new. He is not acting strange, he is eating and drinking normally.

He had an intestinal worm a couple of months ago, a visit to the vet, no problems until now. This is very unlike him.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Something is upsetting him or could be he has the worms back. Kind of hard to say.

The only reason I can think of, would be that something is wrong:( They don't want to mess in the house, he probably can't help it.
Maybe they missed something at the vet:confused:

Trained dogs, with no change in the household, don't overnight change their habits. At least that's what I have experienced:)

Hi, dahl. Yes, kind of hard to predict, but the little thing is already l3. Could be an entirely geriatric problem.

Oh maybe he didn't mean overnight literally. Maybe he meant 'at night'?

Overnight as in, when we go to bed at around 10pm and get up at 7am!

Maybe it the worms, we haven't noticed any in the poop, we did last time (gross, but no other way to describe, sorry!)

I'm hoping it is not incontinance, We close to getting my 2 year old out of diapers, he is our 4th, I don't want to have to start putting diapers on our dog!

Has his poop changed in appearance? Is it firm? Does he still go outside as much as he used to or is he mostly going in the house? I had a Lhasa for 15 years, lost him in 2007, miss him terribly still...

Dahl, its all the same 'overnight' or 'at night'. Yes he meant it literally, just a different way... 'over the night time'.

Regarding the incontinence, didn't you say he never urinates in the house?
It is my understanding that Propalin is for urinary incontinence.

Yes it is, I misread and deleted my post.

I haven't seen the poop. Will have to ask my wife it has changed in appearance.

This weekend wasn't bad, no accidents since Thursday, he did throw up in the floor Friday. The throw up problem isn't really a problem, just his nature. He will do that every few weeks and has done that for his whole life.

He may be annoyed with you and is just getting even as dogs are inclined to do

A walk before you leave the house and before bed may help. Especially if he is annoyed with you. Great bonding time.

I would say this is hard to diagnose unless he has recently seen a Vet. In agree with "Tickle" - this was the first sign I had that my GSD was aging.

Any change in behavior can be a sign of something physical beginning to happen (as long as you've covered the other bases, such as changes in routine or family structure).
