I have a 2004 altima (4cyl) and my husband has replaced the timing belt... it starts right-up, but it is idoling badly. How can he fix this problem?

When replacing the T-Belt, it's best to place a mark (e.g. Whiteout or white paint) on each pulley and corresponding point on the side of the old timing belt, before removing. Then, remove old belt, transfer marks exactly to new belt, and reinstall with confidence.

Since it sounds like you didn't use this procedure, you should buy a Haynes Manual for your particular Altima and check everything again. Did you set the engine to TDC on the compression stroke?

First, don't run the engine again until the timing has been preset. Damage could occur.
You stated your husband replaced the timing "belt". Do you mean timing "chain"?
