Tonight I'm going to replace the vanity cabinet and sink in my master bathroom but before I take it out of service I have a couple questions. Sorry that I'm not able to provide any pictures of the actual install but I'll try to explain the best way I can. The existing rough brass trap arm is soldered at the wall. I'd like to replace the rough brass p-trap but I'm not sure of the best approach. Here is a pic of what the brass p-trap looks like:

Option 1:
Cut the rough brass trap arm with reciprocating saw on the wall side of the first sweep angle. Measure required trap arm length and cut new pvc trap arm to fit. Install 1-1/4 inch rubber coupling between the cut brass trap arm and the new pvc trap arm. Install pvc j-bend to the sink drain.
Option 2:
Just unscrew and replace the j-bend with new rough brass j-bend and run rough brass to the sink drain.
