    Garage door problems
I have a craftsman 1/2 hp garage door opener and it does not stop when it fully closes. It starts to buckle, and it also does not go all the way up, only about 1/2 way. I am not really familiar w/gdo's, can you offer some ideas.

    Thanks, Mark

When it stops on its way up, does it reverse? Garage doors have a clutch switch that reverses the door when it hits something and slips. Having the clutch too loose would cause the door to reverse on the way up. Having the clutch too tight would cause it to buckle instead of stop all the way down. Try loosening the clutch. There should be an adjusting nut inside a hole at the back of the housing. Back it off a turn or 2, and try the door. Once you have it stopping when it should, then start on it stopping when it shouldn't. First step is to raise and lower the door several times by hand, and see if it binds. Check the rollers and track. If the door doesn't work easily, the opener isn't going to be able to work. Also check the switch that signals that the door is clear up.
