In my bedrooms there are cracks in the corners between the ceiling and the wall and between the wall and the door molding. Can this just be painted or does it have to be repaired? If repaired, how?

I think you'll do best if you repair it. A competent drywaller can fix it. Unfortunately, you have a textured ceiling that will require re-texturing. If it were a smooth ceiling and wall, the taping (drywall tape) would be simpler.
You could use caulking to fix. Or if it gets a proper fix check to make sure the popcorn ceiling does not have asbestoes because it will have to be scraped back about 6 inches.
Just put some painter's caulk in the crack and smooth with a wet finger. Let it dry and paint.
Those are from when the popcorn was sprayed on they take a broad knife and scrape the excess popcorn off the wall,it will tend to make it easyer for a hairline crack there if you use caulk it will not look that good with the corner being rounded try to paint it a few times to fill the cracks with paint
Caulk is not the way to fix this I have been in the drywall trade for 25 years you will make a mess if you use caulk and it will look like garbage
