I have a GE DBL333EAOWW electric dryer that won't start. It just makes a humming sound when I try to start it. Is this a broken starter & how much should I expect to pay to replace it if it is?
Thanks in advance! :)

Does the humming continue until the door is opened? Does the dryer get warm, like it is drying clothes?
If so, it might just be a broken belt. You can take the back off and look, but if that is too intimidating, a reputable service man can easily replace the belt, if that is indeed the problem. The advantage of doing it yourself is that it is free! Belts do break, and that would mean most likely all the expensive parts are still okay.
If it is something else, it might not be cost-effective to repair. Until you know what is actually wrong with it, any guess is just a guess.
There is really not a "starter" in an electric dryer. The major parts are:
- Motor (expensive)
- Timer (also expensive, not quite as much)
- Belt
- Pulley
- Drum (where the clothes go)
Not much to go wrong with this :)
Best of luck,
