I have a rough in for a basement bathroom and have a few questions...

1. If I am going to put a shower enclosure in, should I frame behind it or just have plastic moisture barrier against the concrete with the fiberglass enclosure over that?

2. The drain to the ejector pit from the shower is square... do I need anything ro seal that, or can I just run the shower drain into that square hole?

3. 12" from the center of the toilet drain to the finished wall, right?

You will have to ask that question in construction. We don't build shower enclosures. Our responsibility ends with the plumbing installation.

There is an ejector pit right next to the sump pit. The shower hole, the toilet hole and the sink drain hole are about 15 feet away, and underneath the slab all empty into the ejector pit....they are separate pits about 2 feet from each other. (This is new construction, so I imagine that this is the standard way to do this.) Does that help?

If the ejector pit's uncovered then you have a open cesspool in your basement. Ejector pits should be sealed as a open pit presents a health hazard to your family. Regards, Tom

The drains from the toilet, the sink and the shower all run into a separate sump pit, which has and ejector vent roughed in. It is right next to the sump pit. The hole where the shower is to go is about 8" square.

Are you asking if you can just drain the shower into a square hole in the cement? As a rule when we roughfor a tub we leave a tub dap out, 2 X 12 square hole but when we rough for a shower we place the trap under the pour and extend a raiser up from the trap out of the cement. Please explain your set up in detail. Is there a trap with a raiser in that square hole? Is any of this vented? Is the ejector pit vented? The lavatory?

This is where I am at a loss. While I'm a handy guy, I don't know anything about plumbing. I know there is an ejector pit vent, but all I see in the floor are the pipes for the lavatory, sink and the square hole where the shower should go. There doesn't seem to be anything in the hole, and there is nothing protruding from the hole.

Ya just can't set a shower base over a hole in the floor and think that it would work. The shower base will have to be trapped and vented before it's connected to the sewer. Dig in the hole, I still say it's a tub dap-out, and even if there's no trap and raiser there might be a horizontal drain that's buried there. The ejector pit should have two pipes coming out of it. One for the discharge and the other a dedicated vent that's separate from the house vent system.
