Can you clarify, do you mean do you have to pay his ex wife for children that she has custody of.

OR, are you and husband divorcing now and he wants you to pay him child support for these children

Also, this is a legal question, not a people question so its been moved to the Family Law forum.

For future reference please spend more time selecting an appropriate forum and wording your question. The more you put into your question the better we can answer it. But don't overload, either.

Another tip. If asked for follow-up information please answer ALL questions asked. We don't ask for more info out of curiosity, but yo get enough info to give you the best advice. You really haven't given us enough info to go on.

Is it your husband's ex girlfriend that you are referring to? Please give more details!

In the U.S. your not responsible per se to pay his child support payments. But since you married him and if he has bills that he is required to pay its part of the family budget. There is no legal obligation for you to pay it for him it's a moral thing.

If your in Canada then things are different. Canadian law has provisions in it that may require you to take up the slack should your husband fall behind and you would by law be required to make up the difference.

So without basic information of what state your in and what's going on it is VERY hard to advise you on anything as Scott has said.

It is my husband's ex-girlfriend who has filed child support against him before we were married. We live in the state of Illinois

While they can't make you persoanlly pay, it is possible that some US states take "household" income to consider support due. But again, while they cannot garnish your check, they will be taking his pay for the support.
