I hired a man to replace the door between my garage and my family room. He put in a larger door than I originally had, supposedly to bring it up to code, and since it is in the corner of a split entry home, it is between 2 cement walls. The new door is so large that there is no room for moulding so he mudded and textured it. The new hole he cut for the door was not level and has spaces up to an inch between the door frame and the sheetrock and now has a crack running all the way around the door between the 2. He says the mud cracked because he used fast drying mud so he says he will come back and put slow drying mud in the cracks or caulking and that will fix it. I don't know if he used tape on it or not. Will new mud or caulking work? I'm afraid it will keep cracking. Thanks for you help. Jan

All mud shrinks when it dries. It cracks when you put on a really heavy coat. Should have been taped. Another coat with tape will fix. If he used fast drying mud why didn't he finish the job. That's the purpose of using fast drying mud.

How much space between the wall and the door frame.

Thanks Harold! He used a power saw that looked like a huge drill with a key hole type saw on it and cut the hole so it's not even and the corner was rounded. I believe the distance between the wall and the door frame is up to 1 inch in several areas. Yesterday while opening and closing the door to check why it doesn't close all of the way on it's own some plaster came off in a chunk about 5 inches long from the top of the door frame. I'm at a loss here. He did believe he finished the job because he textured it.

Show me a picture. If he just muded it with no tape and nothing behind it it will probably fall out. If he was coming back put on another coat, why did he texture it. Why did he texture at all, are the other walls textured? Are you saying that the door does not close properly? If he had to cut out the hole why didn't he move it over another inch so he would put the trim? Doesn't sound very good, sorry. What size is the new door? What size is was the old door?
