    Traffic law, speeding ticket,cort date
I had a speeding ticket in dallas Texas and on my court date the officer did not show up and it was dismissed! I received another ticket in dinison Texas (speeding 13 over).
If the officer is not there will it too be dismissed, if not then why was it dismissed in dallas Texas? And what does the law state on this matter??

Yes, the ticket will be dismissed if the officer does not show up in Court. Don't count on the officer in Dennison not showing up as this is a smaller city than Dallas. And yes, it works that way in all states (not just Texas) - if the officer does not show up to court the ticket is dismissed.

Well maybe, the judge has the right to dismiss it if the officer does not show up because there is no one to testify against you.

But the jduge also has the right to reset a new court date.

I have seen both happen. It is up to the judge. ** normally they dismiss but not always.

At least in our local courts here, police oficers show up about 1/2 of the time, issues, night duty officers have to come in on their time off, officers on duty can't always come in.
And sadly many don't get paid for coming in, except what little witness fee ( about 15 dollars locally) So a officer may not want to spend his enitre morning or afternoon in court for 15 bucks
