    Child abandoment.what do I do?
Hi. I have a daughter who is a little over 5 months. Since around her 3 week birthday she has not seen or heard from her real father. Im not sure why he is choosing not to do so. I did file for child support and with that came a petition for paternity which we just did. I would just like to know my options at this point. I really believe he has no intention of making any arrangements to see her. Which honestly is fine with me. Shell be 6 months old soon... should I file for abandoment, where do I file? What happens next? Should I confront her father and suggest he gives up rights to her? If anyone knows anything I would be appreciative. I just want to do the right thing for her and to it legally. Thank you

You basically cannot. NY generally won't terminate parental rights unless/until there is another person, married to the other natural parent, who is willing/able to adopt. Even then the natural parent has to consent.

Even if you COULD get a Court Order of abandonment it would serve no purpose - he IS the father, he has rights (once they are ordered by the Court and he decides to exercise them) and he DOES have a responsibility to support his child.
