    Hello T:

If you got charged as an adult, you're probably not going to be a cop. They really want their cops to be scrupulously honest. I do too.

Where you want to be a Police Officer doesn't matter. I don't think you can pass the background check.

Agree with Excon - I don't want to be stopped by someone with an arrest record, wearing a uniform.

When I was 20 I was charged with a felony larceny charge, I was never convicted I participated with a deferment program which is once I finished probation it became a sealed case that would not be public records. I am currently attending college to get my associates degree in criminal justice, when I got cought stealing I was hanging out with the wrong crown and now that I have learned from my mistakes and I am very embarrassed by what I did I want to help other people with their lives and try to help people get on the right path and not make the same biggest mistake that I made in my life. I am almost 23 now. This happened in Michigan and the program that I participated in was called HEIDA, it is for first offenders that have never been in trouble, the only stipulation was I had to finish my probation term which was suppose to be 3 years but I was discharged after 7 months. I want to become a police officer so bad it almost hurts. I just want to know if I am going to be able to become an officer for a department with what I did. Once again I was charged with the felony larceny but I was never convicted because I participated in the deferment program. I now live in Indianapolis Indiana and I want to become and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Officer, can someone answer my question please.

No record is sealed from the Police. If you apply and pass the initial testing and your background is "run" your arrest and the terms of your probation will be visible.

The people to ask are the Indianapolis Police. I say no because there are so many applicants. I also thought that Indianapolis (from their website) was looking for people with 4 year degrees.

I have cleaned up the question.

Every state has different names for different crimes. For example some simple theft in GA is called tresspass ( even if there is no tresspassing) The issues are this, it is not to argue about the name of the crime.

If you are just charged or convicted of a misdemeanor you can be a police officer. It may stop you from being a officer in some of the bigger departments and the such. But it does not stop you from being post certified.
