    Online court trial records?
I'm an working on the history of an individual who, in 2002, was convicted of some crimes in California. I live in Georgia and was *hoping* that it would be possible to get copies of these records either online or copied and sent to me. It will be several months before I can make the time to go out there. The problem is I'm not exactly sure of when the trial happened (in terms of start of trial, end of trial, etc). I do know the individual was convicted and where they were sentenced to serve their time. I do not know the actual dates or what county/district/etc. the trial occurred in.

Does anyone know of any online sites where I could find this information? If the trial transcipts, court records, etc are not available online, does anyone know how I would go about getting them? Where would I write? How would I find out where the trial occurred? Etc.

I apologize for such open-ended questions but this is something that I've gotten into just recently (about 6 weeks ago) and now I'm at a roadblock. I've checked LexisNexis (sp?) but I don't know if that is what I would need. I hope not as it seems rather cost-prohibitive to me.

Thank you in advance for any help/information you can give. And thank you for taking the time to read this.

    Hello J.

If it was federal time, write to the Bureau of Prisons or the Department of Corrections for the state where he was convicted. They should be able to tell you the county or federal disctrict court he was convicted in. That should narrow it down for you.

Thank you. I will look into that. I was hoping I could get a lot of it done online but if it has to be regular mail then that is OK. Thank you again for the information.

Also, depending on your situation it is possible that those records will have to be subpoenaed.
