How much truth is there in "when child support ends for one of the children (there are two children of this marriage (one is 15, the other is 17), the alimony will go up". An attorney told that to a man that I know that he hired to represent him.

If the Attorney who is aware of the circumstances has said this, I would tend to believe him/her.

Without knowing all of the circumstances it is difficult to say.

The alimony won't instantly go up. It would have to be brought to the Judge's attention that the child support for one child has ended and the financial picture of the person paying the alimony is more. Each case is individually judged. In Florida or any other state usually alimony is for a set number of years and is not a lifetime annuity type deal. When I was in Florida I never heard the thing of the alimony being increased due to one child reaching 18 and another child still at home. You could, however, petition the court for an increase in child support for the remaining child at home but you would have to prove increased needs - not just because the father makes more money and you want your share of it. There is a financial formula that is used to determine child support.
