1986 S-10 4-cyl, 2.5L, 5 speed won't start. Turned over slow until tonight.
I have a 1986 S-10 Pickup, 4-cyl, 2.5L 5 Speed; 175K miles. Been dying lots lately when coming to a stop. Would have to start again and keep up the RPS's. Completely shut down yesterday on the interstate at approx. 60 mph just like sudddenly out of gas or no electricity. No jerking or lundging forward or anything like that. For about 10 miles before that it was acting like losing power (not missing) and I would have to downshift to 4th gear on slight grade until on downhill it completely shut down. Afterwards it turned over slowly but would not start. Had it towed home. Ignition accidentally left on all afternoon after the occurrence. Found it on and turned it off, charging battery overnight. Checked and found loose and corroded cables/connections at battery this afternoon and repaired. Made no difference at all; turned over just as slow. Battery is good and now fully charged; checked with a load tester. Turned over slowly until this evening and suddenly quit turning over. No clicks. Starting attempts altogether would be less that 2 minutes total since the ordeal started, so trying to start it did not burn out the starter. Starter had not been getting slow or having any difficulty starting at all. Was about to replace ICM, Coil and Engine Coolant Temperature sensor due to previous advice about engine having a bad miss until it stars to warm up (about a mile). Any help? Thanks. Ron
