    Love nicknames
I'm thinking about dating someone I really like. I want to give him a cute nickname but need help thinking of one. I don't want something boring like baby or sweetie.
To describe him he's 28, about 6'1" 200 lbs. He likes classic rock music and indie. I thought about using something with phish, I know a couple who's nicknames are pappa and mamma phish & I think that's so cute.
    Any ideas will be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Ewww... nicknames.

If you want to go the nickname route, you have to let it come naturally. Something the spur of the moment.

Remember, not all guys are into nicknames. It actually turns some people off.

Haha my boyfriend and I call each other all sorts of random things. Sometimes he's my big spoon, because when you "spoon" cuddle, the guy is the big spoon because he's on the outside.
    sometimes he's Jerk
other's it's just Boyfriend, or stinky, or whatever I decide to call him
He calles me little Kiwi. Kiwi rhymes with Keeley. It's cute when he says it, but if anyone else did I'd kick them. :)

I dated a girl once who spoke english as a second language...

She always called out to me with "baby"... pronounced "bay-beh"... it was the sexiest thing. I still can hear her voice calling out to me. It was the sweetest thing...

    The Third Arm Of Justice
    Muffin
    Hunny Bunny
    Cutie Poo

    Hope this helps.

Nicknames, IF they ever are used, should be a part of getting to know each other and growing together as a couple. Trying to pick one out is tantamount to naming a puppy or kitten before you get it.

His parents already named him. Why are you wanting to give him a new name before you are even in a relationship with him? That strikes me as being a bit premature and in a way controlling.

Haha she asked for nicknames for HIM not his penis. Lol.

And by the way, I do agree with cat, I think the name should just happen, thinking of one defeats the purpose.

How is that even remotley controlling? I'm trying to be sweet. This guy has been courting me for 5 months and has brought me flowers at work called me beautiful practically every day. I'm trying to show my appreciation by coming up with a cute nickname to compliment him. Its comparable to a love poem!

Just try to think of one natrually. One that makes you think of him when you hear it. It can be something as random as "popcorn" of both of you guys know what it means. If something happen that sticks out as funny or memorable, maybe you'll come up with a name later on down the line.

I think spoon is so cute lol. I'm amazed at almost all of you who took my positive question and made it negative! I actually agree with you nicknames ewe but I was looking for something cute but not mushy. I was just looking for ideas. I agree baby is cute but too common. If u just want to tell me not to think of a nickname because its cheesy or uncool please don't bother answering!

Fair warning, Don't let this turn in to a big heated debate over it.
If you don't like the responses, then just ignore them and reply to the ones you consider helpful. This way it avoids unnecessary arguments.
Since this is a message board, anyone can answer at any time. Not everyone has the same opinions, and I've seen quite a few arguments over things even as small as this.
Don't let other's opinions get to you so much! :)

I'm not lecturing you, and you're not in trouble, I'm just letting you know so that you don't get in trouble in the future.

I'm guessing that you're under 19, because after 19 nicknames aren't that cute anymore.

I met my hubby when we were both 19, that was 19 years ago. Yes, half our lives and we're still together.

    He started as;

    Pooky
    Sweetie
    Shnookie
    Lovey

All the cutsie putsie lovey dovey nicknames you can think of in the first few months of a relationship.

Then you really get to know each other. You realize that pooky snores. Also, Shnookie leaves his dirty underwear on the floor. Lovey doesn't pick up after himself and Sweetie is always late!

    After around 19 years together your nicknames sound something like this;

    A$$hole
    Jerk
    $hit head

    You get the picture.

Oh, I still love him, I really do. We're lifers, nothing can tear us apart, but the lovey dovey cutsie crap died a long time ago, because, well, it's nauseating and downright annoying.

    Just my opinion.

Having said that, why not save yourself some trouble, call him poophish. :)

Haha more than anything my boyfriend and I call each other

    A$$hole
    Jerk
    Lame
    Doofas
    Dodo
    Dork
    Meanie
    Stinky
    Crabby-pants
Scratchy face (for him not me)
Cactus legs (for when I don't shave)

Oh sure, there's a couple of cute ones that I mentioned before, but these are the majority. :)

    How about, stoopid.

    Guys usually respond to that.

Nicknames are pretty stupid. To me anyway, I hate it when guys call me babe, baby or hunny.

My name is Sarah. I'm not a pig, an infant or food.

    SARAH :D

Once in a while, when hubby is feeling goofy, he calls me "poo bits". Ya, you heard right, "poo bits". It's his idea of being cute and romantic.

    Oooh, take me now!

Where did the sarcastic font go? ;)

There really is nothing wrong with nicknames. Nicknames for the sake of having a nickname, that never works.

It's either something that just pops out, or it's nothing. If you have to think about it, you're thinking too hard. ;)

    My hubby is;

    Honey (when I want something)
Sweetie (when I really want something)
A$$hole (when honey and sweetie didn't work and now I'm mad)
Daddy (because that's what the kids call him)
And his name, because, well, it's his name. ;)

I won't tell you what he calls me when he's mad. It will put you off marriage. ;) :p
