I am getting ready to go from a light golden blonde to feria french roast which is a warm brown. I keep reading about pre-pigmentation and was curious to learn more. I purchased roux fanci full color mouse in a copper color and in a brown color. I was hoping I could use these together to pre-pigment and then dye with the brown.

Can I do this and what is the best method. Should I apply the mouse to dry hair or wet? Should I wait for the mouse and my hair to dry (if applied to wet hair:) and then dye it brown or should I put the brown on damp hair?

Hair dye is always applied to dry hair that (best case scenario) has not been washed for 24hours. Wet hair puts water between the hair shaft and the dye making it less effective.

Fanci-ful makes perm and temp mouse products, only the perm one will have impact but I would not recommend. Fanci-ful's products are not designed to last a long period -- if you want to try these, I suggest a strand test or the bangs, etc. To achieve your color goal, Fanci-ful will not be of any use. In order to get the desired result that is closest to the Feria color, you want to avoiding adding other products or chemicals before applying it as your expected results will be distorted.

As far a pre-pigmentation goes, you are probably thinking more of an applied gloss with some mild color. Stylists do this to fill in very thin, over treated hair. Unless your hair has extensive chemical treatment, this is not relevant. If you are trying to get the color to stay longer, move up the level of the developer from a 20 to a 30. (A 40 is really for blondes, a twenty doesn't last too long on already chemically-treated hair.)

Pre-pigmentation is used when doing a tintback -- going from light blonde to darker brown. Most people coloring their hair start with brown hair. When brown hair is treated with peroxide, it turns red and yellow. When hair is bleached blonde, or when a natural blonde tries to go darker, the red and yellow pigments are absent. The formulators assume that the red and yellow will be there, so they add a significant amount of green pigment into the dye mixture. Blondes, therefore, need to pre-pigment with red or orange (red + an equal amount of yellow) or else the final result will take on a greenish cast.

The Fanci-ful rinse is a temporary product that will wash out. You'll need a permanent product.
