Adding Remote Control to Wired Ceiling Fan
I installed a fan (dimmable light and variable speed) a few years ago. I had been using a remote control (both a hand unit and an in-wall battery operated unit) to work the fan through a transmitter (black & white wires on one side and blue, black, & white wires on the other). The in-wall remote always had trouble controlling the fan (I suspect due to interference from other electronics in the area) so I recently had an electrician hard-wire the fan to a new controller switch (which can control dimming and fan speed) on the wall. Of course, in retrospect, I am missing the ability to use the hand remote control and was going to try to wire the transmitter back in place--figuring that I would need the wall controller switch to be in the "on" position to get any functionality from the remote. Unfortunately, I now realize that while there are 4 wires from the ceiling fan receptacle (a red, white, black, and green) that hook to the 4 wires in the fan (a blue, black, white, and green)--this does not allow for me to replace the remote receiver I currently have. Do they make a remote control/receiver set that will work when a fan is hard-wired to a wall controller switch--I suppose it would need 3 wires on both sides of the transmitter (unlike my current receiver)? Alternatively, is there a receiver (my current one or another one) that I could wire in front of the hard-wired in-wall controller switch that would allow me to use both the new in-wall controller switch and a remote control? As you can tell, I am not an electrician... but was hoping for help.
    Thanks in advance-
    Aaron

You can only do this if you remove the wall control.
