Should I still enlist before sentencing
Ok, So I am possibly facing a felony theft charge! It is my first time I have no priors of any kind. I spoke with the detective working my case, he's an extremely cool guy who seems sincerely intrested in helping get the best out come. I had already admitted to the left to my employer prior to my meeting with the detective. He agrees that I'm not a criminal just made a very poor dission. He said he could see one of two out comes. One is the charges will get reduced to a misdemeanor theft or I would qualify for the diversion program, where after completing the program the charges would be a wash! And of course the option of paying retribution, but if I had that money I wouldn't have stolen the stupid stuff to begin with! Now my question is I was planning on enlisting with the Navey before any of this took place. I was actually about two days away from signing when I was caught. Should I wait to see how all this pans out? Or would I be OK if I went ahead with enlisting? Again as of now no charges have been filed it is still an investigation. However, the detective was also very straight forward and said with the dollar amount we are dealing with, some type of charge is inevitable.

I think you would find it extremely embarrassing if you enlisted, then found out the charge was more then previously determined; you would have to reneg in some way and that would show lack of character. I would take your advisors at face value, they probably don't know anymore then you and are just conjecturing. You never know which way the court will go.

Wait until you find out the charge and it is in your favour, then proceed with enlisting.

You should ask your recruiter, if the Navy wants you bad enough, you guys will work something out. If you try to enlist without telling him, your a** will be handed to you.

    Hello bigd:

You're asking for trouble... If you enlist, your a$$ belongs the Navy. They're not going to let you go just because some court files charges...

So, you're going to be in BIG trouble when you don't show up for court, and if you do show up, you're going to be in BIG trouble with the Navy.
