Wanting the phrase "live in the light" translated to Latin for a tattoo. Can anybody help? I'm fairly sure light is "lux" in latin, but not sure of the rest a,and if the phrasing would change the words. Please help! Xx :p

TO LIVE IN THE LIGHT!

VIVERE IN LUCEM.

Vivere is to live VERB.
Lux - Lucis is a NOUN (lucem is the object)

ROLCAM's suggestion sounds good--it might be hard to find someone who would know the correct imperative form.

Have you googled english to latin translation?

Redhed: That might help if he wanted to translate a Latin phrase to English, but I wouldn't recommend an online translator for a tattoo, no sirree.

"lucem" is not correct! While technically accurate, it would translate as something like 'to come into existence' ('in' + accusative = 'into', so 'to live into light'). You should instead use "luce" ('in' + ablative = in/on).

Having said that, it could perhaps be argued that the message is to move from darkness and into the light, but this is rather contrived at best.

Hello caudex, welcome to the HelpDesk! If you know anything about Latin you are doubly welcome here; next to Sanskrit questions there are probably more often requests to translate English to Latin than anything else, in this Languages section, and up 'till now there hasn't really been anyone knowledgeable to offer more than a surmise... rolcam's surprised me as being above the average we get here :).
