We are renting a condo with an outdoor ceiling fan in an enclosed/covered deck. We decided to add a light kit to the ceiling fan and purchased an oval schoolhouse model, item number 885. We purchased an A15 candelabra bulb. I hooked the blue and black wire together and the white and white. The fan turns but the light kit does not turn on. Is it because we do not/cannot find an A15C bulb or could the light kit be defective?

What bulb did you install? Does the light kit have a pull chian on the side? Also, as a side note, be aware that you should have the owners permission to make such a change.

Check the wiring at the ceiling.
