Light bulb in ceiling fan not working
We have a ceiling fan with a light fixture in a bedroom, I think it is a Hunter fan. There was a shorting noise and the light no longer worked. I replaced the pull switch because that has happened before. When that did not work, I what the bulb mounts into. That also did not work. I tested the connections with a tester and it is very dim. When I test a known socket, the tester is bright. I did notice a little black box. It is about 2"x2". Is this some sort of capacitor and would it make the light receive very little power?

    Any other ideas?

Personally- I would not keep that fan in an operating mode, with the thought of a possible fire. When you get on a ladder, smell the area where the socket is, for any burnt smell. If you can get any type of odor like that- do not attempt to fix the problem. It's not worth it.

    Tim,

Is there or are there any wall switches installed to control the light?

My suggestion only, consider getting a multimeter. A class 1 meter is fine for around the home. It will give you an accurate voltage reading. A dim led does not really help you.

    Is it a remote fan?
