I was served a civil summons and it said I could write a defense letter or have my atty do one. I can't afford a atty right now so I was wondering how to write a defense letter, help needed.

If you have no defense, you don't need to write a letter. The judgment won't be bigger because you didn't defend yourself...

What I WOULD do, is raise as much cash as I could, and try to make a settlement with them. Doing THAT will save you money. You could probably settle for pennies on the dollar.

If it actually gets to court, you're going to be paying for HIS lawyer, court costs and other legal fees... The judgment will probably be for more than TWICE what you owe now.
