    Power fail without circuit tripping
    Hello,
I wired new lights for a basement project. When I flipped on the circuit, the lights came on but my switches were still in the off position. When I flip the switch to 'on' it tripped the circuit. Then I tried having the switches in the 'on' position to start, then I flipped the circuit breaker to 'on'. When I do that other lights not part of the basement flickered for a second. So now I have two other circuits that lose power without the circuit tripping. The only way to get them back on is to turn each circuit off and then on again. Eventually the power is restored to the circuits. Any ideas as to why the power is failing on circuits not related to the basement light circuit?

    Thanks,

OK you wired the switch and/or feed incorrectly, so the lights are directly on the circuit breaker, then when you flipped the switch you caused a dead short, causing the CB to trip.

How you managed to affect another circuit is beyond me.

Take apart all the wring at the switch, explain exactly what you have, and we can help you get it connected properly.
