My LG Notebook computer which runs a Windows XP failed to boot up again after a sudden power off in the midst of some internet browsing. I am preparing to run the Recovery Disc which comes along with the computer purchase. Will this wipe out all my data and pics in the computer? Anyway to avoid deleting of data ? :confused:

OK. I will be corrected if I am wrong but if the recovery console is ran correctly it should repair the Windows files and leave your data as you left it.

I have included a link that would be helpful to you. It includes a step-by-step guide and I have also included a link that explain what commands you can use once you reach the command prompt.

I'm assuming the "recovery disk" is a disk image. This is different from Windows "Recovery Console". In most cases, this will overwrite your data including pics. There are some disk images out there that will move the data to a separate subdirectory and install a new Windows image without disturbing it. However, those are rare.

The only cases I've seen where the data could be saved were cases where the disk image was kept in a separate partition on the hard drive.
