Strpping Red Hair Colourant with Peroxide
I dyed my hair purple almost 12 months ago and it is now looking shabby and left a red tinge. I wondered if I used a quick peroxide rinse whether it would strip the red out of my hair. I bought a bottle of 30% peroxide and was going to add 1/2 water 1/2 peroxide and leave it on damp hair for approximately 30 minutes but my friend at work said NO don't do it... I have also bought light brown hair colourant to put on afterwards. Help I don't know what to do, I know if I put the colourant on without pre lightning it will dye my roots to the correct colour and then I will end up with 3 different grades of colour because of the red left on the rest of my hair and it will look stupid. What can I do... Please help/advise.

No. Peroxide won't work. Peroxide put the colorant in your hair, what makes you think it will lift it out?

There are two approaches to removing artificial colorant: bleaching or color removers. Bleaches are pretty hard on the hair. I always recommend color removers like ColorFix, Color Oops, Color Zap, or Igora Phantom. Color Zap is a glorified bleach so I don't recommend that as heartily, although people say it works.

After color remover, you may have to bleach further (but it'll be easier on the hair than bleach alone), and then re-dye it.
