Finished a new real wood desk with the 2 in 1 stain and sealer. Sanded for 2nd coat- Came out horrible! Used paint thinner to try and smooth out streaks and remove sealer from wood. Was this another horrible mistake?

Want to paint it now - what kind of paint should I use? How should I prepare the wood?

It may look terrible but that sealer has likely done a good job of priming the wood for paint. Lightly sand with fine paper and vacuum followed by a tack cloth. Paint with acrylic enamel, two coats minimum.

Thanks for your answer. I pretty much had it sanded off so I consulted someone at Lowe's and went with a latex tinted primer and paint. Did primer coat already and it went on fine and dried nicely. Lesson learned: forget the 2 in 1 stuff and stick to the old fahioned but effective way of finishing. Thanks again.

Stain sealer all in one is very difficult to control. I, like you, only tried it once, that was enough for me.
