What happen when chlorobenzen react with chloral
I'm not sure what chloral is...
I do know that chlorobenzene is very stable though. The electronegativity of chlorine attracts electrons of the benzene towards it, so that the C-Cl bond is very strong, and the possible nucleophilic attack to the benzene ring is reduced.
Chloral is trichloroacetaldehyde, Cl3C-CHO (the oxygen is double-bonded to the carbon; the hydrogen is bonded to the carbon.
I believe that chloral and chlorobenzene were used to make DDT (dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane), if I'm not mistaken. I think it was done in concentrated H2SO4. I've never done the reaction myself.
