Lots of smoke comes out of exhaust when in 4th gear
I have a 2002 Daewoo Nubira automatic. When I drive while in 1st-3rd gear the car runs fine, but when I press the throttle to go faster and the cars goes to shift into 4th gear, it almost seems like it gets stuck for about 10-15 seconds, nothing with the engine happens (sounds like when you are in park and press the gas) as soon as this happens a big ball of black smoke comes out of the exhaust and starts to come through the vents. I pulled over and the engine was smoking a little and it smelled terribly like oil. The car was not over heating at all. Anyone have any ideas of what to look at first?

Thank you, I was scared of that. I just put 600 dollars into the piece of crap and this is what it does.

There are good auto technicians out there, and then there are parts replacers. (can't diagnose sh!t)
I hope you did your homework in selecting the right shop when you spent that 600. Demand proper service. Don't be shy.
    Keep us posted, please.

It turned out to be the head valve cover and the valve gasket. Oil was leaking into the spark plugs and the area where the spark plugs sit was filled with oil. The cover was cracked and the vacuum hose was broke off. So all of that needed replaced and I ended up getting a tune-up, oil change and radiator flush in the process.

Don't overlook changing the transmission fluid and filter--very important, if you plan on keeping the car.

Ok, good advice, I will do that next because after putting all of this money into it I don't really want to get rid of it now. Thanks
