I have a shower leak caused by the gel sealant coming away. I have now replaced this and the shower leak appears to be contained but it is still leaking through my kitchen ceiling directly inderneath the shower. When I removed one end of the surround of the shower base it was very very wet - so much so that a couple of boards were all black and soggy - the leak may have been going on for a number of months so I guess it could still be seeping through the wood and subsequently my ceiling? I haven't used the shower for a couple of days now but the leak persists though it does appear to be slowing (I hope!). Its currently dripping about once a minute. How long will it take to dry out - if ever?

If you haven't used the shower for an extended time and you are still getting drips may I suggest the leak maybe coming from somewhere else. Try taking the faceplate off the shower taps and looking at the pressure side of the valve, if it is leaking there it could easily have dribbled down to the drain and perhaps caused the gel coat to separate in the first place.

Thanks Airwren - I found the leak. I ended up taking down the plasterboard wall behind the shower mixer and there is the leak - actually 2 leaks - one coming out of the mixer and the other coming out of the hot water pipe. Haven't had a close look as there's a noggin in the way which I've yet to remove but it looks like I'm either looking at a new mixer, or hopefully the hot water pipe leak is feeding down to the mixer and just making it look like its dripping from there too, because it would be pretty unlucky to have 2 separate leaks wouldn't it?

Any recommendations on good makes for thermostatic mixers should I need to purchase one?
