Shower stall minimum size mass code
Is a 32 inch shower stall legal by mass plumbing code?

    Hi Mulloy...

In Massachusetts the minimum shower floor area must be 900 square inches (30" shower base). Most 32" showers meet this requirement, however, you still need to check with the manufacturer/supplier to be absolutely sure that, for example, the built-in shelves don't take away from the square inches needed to make it a legal shower... ;)

In my area it is 1,024 square inches minimum. So 32" square base is just that. Of course, neo-angle shaped base with 32" sides will not give you that required measurement.

But I agree with Mark: make few phone calls - including to your Inspector - to verify.

Be careful, just because Home Depot / Lowe's located in your area carries certain size shower base - it doesn't mean it is legal or that it will pass Inspection.
