I have three 40 Gb hard disk and one 20 Gb hard disk when I connect all the four hard disk at a time my system takes a long time to boot and also its slow for opening any application such as ms word or windows media player.

Most slow systems are slow on boot because they're trying to load a lot into memory when they boot. In your case, you don't have much memory so another possibility is that the system is trying to load a lot of programs and it's swapping to disk frequently. Without more information, it's impossible to tell.

Download a copy of Autoruns from Microsoft

    Autoruns for Windows

Autoruns will tell you what you're starting. You can uncheck things, reboot, and see if things load faster. Be careful because some things must be present at boot time.

If you wish to post back, tell us what version of Windows you're using.
