Can you get in trouble for forwarding a slanderous email?
I forwarded an email to a friend for her to see. I didn't create the email and it was three years old.

Three years ago an email went out about someone, about a year later I forwarded to someone to see. Recently this person emailed it to another party who emailed it to another party and now the person the email is about is talking about charging me with defamation of character. Can the original subject of the email do this? I was not the person who created the original email and I forwarded it to one person?

I agree that the email is rude, but fictitious at best. Can she get a restraining order using this email? I never emailed her. I have since learned my lesson regarding random gossip of others.

What if anything is she legally capable of doing with this email to me?

    Hello a:

It's the fictitious part that's troublesome for you. Yes, she can get a restraining order, and depending on whether the email damages her, she can due you for that too.

PS> I wouldn't worry too much, though. If her damages were only hurt feelings and not a lost job, then she really doesn't have any.
