    Concrete Patio Prep
I'm having my concrete patio replaced. The contractor has torn it all out and dug the area out as needed. Looks like the previous base was some sort of sand. They will place rebar in it before they pour this time, but what items are normally done to prep the ground before they pour the new concrete.

Bed of gravel well tamped and leveled, then the rebar and finally cement. Is he planning to pour right on the old sand bed, read your contract quick because he is taking some short cuts at your expense.

He will be using new sand and then rebar, but no gravel. How thick should the sand be for a 4" slab?

Not sure about your area but Illinois climate does not allow concrete on sand. Where do you live?

Call your local building department an ask what's their code for the bed under a concrete salb, don't think they will allow sand. It does freeze in OK doesn't it?

It freezes here in Ontario. We use crushed stone under slabs .
