Hi 1st let me say Iam new to this site. I'm currently in college, I was homeschooled threw my high school lives. Also I'am what most call a late to start college (27 years old). Iam having problems with staying focused and modivated. Its not just in school but in every thing I do. I have very low selfestem and that shocks most people since I act like I do. Also Iam very easliy distracted and get boared quickly. When I don't understand something I will throw it too the side and not pick it back up. Something else that might help to know Iam an only child and my parents were very pushy. My Mom still calls 4 or more times a day and wants to know what hours Iam working, what plans I have and everything else in between. I love that I can talk to her about anything but Iam scared of what things are going to be like when she passes away as I don't have a close neet family.
I want to know and feal that I can make a life for myself and not have to be forced to do it. Also if Iam not forced to do it its like I never will do any thing. Help any advice?

It sounds like your parents didn't give you as many opportunities to build an independent life. But you can definitely build it yourself.

Try going out more and joining more activities, clubs, events, volunteer, etc. That way you will meet more people with the same interests, so you will have things in common to talk about. The more you interact with others, the more you can build our confidence.

You are 27, holding down a job, and attending school. I suspect that you went from home directly to college, so being independent is new to you.

It is never an easy thing to adjust to being on your own, regardless of how close you are to your parents, and no matter how old you are.

It is important that while you recognize that you need to focus more and apply yourself to getting through your school work, you may lack the skills. That is not a fault of being home schooled, it is just a different environment from home. Many are overwhelmed with learning how to organize themselves going into college from high school too.

Prioritize and set up a schedule. Get a calendar with big squares so you can keep track of what needs to be done when. Keep an organized work space free of clutter, get a file cabinet or file box of some sort. Plan each day to spend time just doing school work. Seek out assistance from the school guidance area; they are experts in assisting you with any difficulties you may be having.

Don't add too much to your life, just take bits at a time. Join a club or group, but remember to put your studies first, and when you have confidence building with that success, you'll feel more confident to explore your freedom in other ways socially.

I waited about 5 to 6 years before I went back to school.

Try dating. Sometimes, that changes the way of a person's attachment to parent and help to become independent.
