    Idle surging
Hi- I have a Toyota tacoma 2001 PU. It has not been driven in 6 months and was running fine when we left it but now the accelorator surges and even a quick pump doesn't make it calm down so you sound like you are roaring continually (and you are)- especially when pulling up to a stop light it sounds god-awful. Any suggestions on diagnosis or treatment? I'm sure it's not good for the clutch and is likely horrid for gas mileage. Thanks, Lynne

. Check throttle cable routing. Did it come out of a bracket?

. Clean throttle plate and throttle body. The throttle plate sticking could easily be the main problem. Gasoline gums up when vehicles are not used for a long time.

. Add Shell Regane or Chevron's Techron to the gas tank, to help remove any gum that has formed in the fuel injectors.

. Clean Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) with a spray can of brake cleaner--be sure to wear safety goggles.

. Clean air box with a damp rag (allow to dry) and change the air filter.
