    Stepfather-child support
My daughter was born in Utah. If my husband (her stepfather) and I divorce can he be legally responsible to pay child support if he has been financially responsible for her for 3 years? We currently live in the state of California. Her biological father had his parental rights terminated by the courts in 2000, and has never paid a cent in child support nor been part of her life.

Unless he adopts her, the chances are VERY unlikely. It wouldn't be the first time in the states, but there are usually some very extenuating circumstances.

If we are voting, I'll vote with Steve - there is no obligation on the part of the stepfather to support the child.

As a side issue - why didn't your husband ever adopt the child?
