Hi all,my husband wants to adopt my daughter from my previous marriage.I have submitted just the main petition form and got my case number.now I need to send this form(voluntary relinquishment of parental rights) to my ex husband. Please tell me whether I can prepare it on my own and mail him directly or it has to go through the clerk's office and where will it be received. And secondly in the form there is a place called- verified by- who is to fill it and where. Please tell me because my exhusband lives in another country and I have to give him very specific details because he doen not want to be bothered again and again. Thank you

The office you got his form from should be able to provide you with specific instructions. Each state is different so it would be tough for us to answer here.

We live in Texas and I got these forms online and I went to the law library to find answers but it was no help and we can not afford a lawyer

The verified by is probably whatever the equivalent of a notary is in his country. They just want someone to certify that he signed willingly and presented ID to prove who he is.

But I agree with Steve on checking with the court where you filed the petition to check what they want.

Try your local law school. There will undoubtedly be a student or two looking to help out for minor fees or just the experience.

OR... try googling an example of that form online and see how it looks.

You said you filed the petition and got a case number. Go to where you did that.

Scottgem in the form there is a place which says it has to be signed by two witnesses in front of a notary. So I thought the verified part was to be done by someone else. I'm really confused

Scottgem the lady who gave us the case number said she can not give any advise and asked us to go to law library. But even at the law library we could find no answers, no clear procedure guidelines.

Then try a local law school. Many have free or low cost clinics staffed by students.
