Officer Put Wrong License Info On Failure to Yield Ticket
Let me start by saying that the following happened in Washington state. I received a ticket for failure to yield from a private driveway. When I got home, I looked closely at the ticket and realized the Officer had put the wrong state on it. I have a temporary Montatna tag on my car, and he wrote in WA instead of MT. Do I have any grounds for a ticket dismissal? There was no accident, or even any real infraction. I believe the cop was simply bored as it was late at night and there was only him and me on the road at the time. He was nowhere near being close to me when I pulled out across his lane to get to the lane going opposite him.

I doubt he was issuing tickets out of boredom and it sounds like you did exactly what he charged you with - which is a traffic infraction - but, no, that is not substantial misinformation which would make the ticket void.

No, just putting the wrong state is not grounds for dismissal of a ticket. You can try to have it dismissed but chances are not good that it will be.

You have the right to go to court and have your case reviewed. I usually is already included in the price of the ticket. Sometimes it works and sometimes it dosen't. You can always go to court and hope the police officer doesn't show up. Then you automatically win the case and your ticket will be dismissed.

The error will not get your ticket dismissed.

My question is this: why did you need to pull out so quickly? Why not just wait until he had passed? You already indicated that it was just you and him on the road; why were you in such a hurry?

You can try to fight it but remember - cop cars have dash cameras. You may want to think about just how close he really was before you argue in court and then have video evidence proving you wrong.
