    Open hot outlet
I replaced an outlet in my basement. Put everything back together and it wasn't working.
I plugged in a tester and it read "open hot". There were three white wires and three black plus a ground. I didn't have much wire to work with since I had to cut them to remove the old outlet so I connected all three white wires with a fourth and ran that one to the outlet.
I did the same with the black wires. Can you tell me what is an open hot and possibly why the outlet isn't working? Thank you.

Open hot means there is no power at all to the receptacle.

Was it working before? If so check your splices to see if there is a bad connection to the blacks.

You probably didn't have to cut the wire. Back stabbed wires have a release mechanism to release solid wires. Stranded wires usually have to be cut.
