Call the folks down at the county courthouse. A lien is recorded several places in the county.

Go to the county recorders office and see what liens are on the home.

I will be blunt, if there was a lien would you not know of the debt that caused it ?

It would help if you told us what type of lien you're concerned about. Mortgage liens, mechanics' liens and tax liens can usually be found in the county clerk's office. Judgment liens may be filed separately.

If you don't mind spending a few $$ you can call a title agency and order a title search and judgment search. That should show all types of liens.
