    How do I remove write-protected
I am trying to transfer my"My Documents" to a separate hard disc but about half way through I get a failure massage that says that a particular file cannot be copied as it is "write protected". The disc is not full and the file is not being used.

I have located this file and find that it is empty. I have then tried to delete the file but I get a "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and has to close" message every time.

Unless I can delete this file then I can't copy over onto the other hard disc.

What do I do to remove this *** file please ?

Try restarting the computer and see if the problem persists. What is the file? Also what is the exact error message?

    Hello Rich
One suggestion that usually works for me, is to right click on the file, and select cut, repeat process several times and then select cut

Also, can you move the file out of my documents but still leave it on your old c drive
