My friend has a 12year old springer spaniel that poops while sleeping. He can even doing it while walking around or just hanging out on the floor. He always seems very surprised that this has happened. The vet did not know why. He muscles are fine. HELP!

At 12 years of age these things can happen. He may not realize that he has to go until he's actually going.

This is most likely part of him getting old.

There are doggy diapers but in my experience they cause more stress then they're worth.

To reiterate what Alty said it sounds like he is just getting old.
Has he had a check-up at the vets recently? Might give you some insight as to why it is happening.

You can try the doggy diapers, (also) like Alty said some dogs don't like them but some do get used to them, a friend of mine uses them on her younger male dogs because they are impossible to house train.

Shazamataz. He's nearly 90 in dog years..

I got my husband a t'shirt years ago for his birthday that said...

"In Dog years, I'm dead" He loved it:D

Edit: he would have been 200, 90 is still good
