Earring down shower drain past trap
I just realized that this morning, the tiny rock like thing that I stepped on and washed down the drain in the shower was one of the earrings that my boyfriend bought for me after months - months - of shopping. I didn't have my contacts on so I didn't recognize it :( After my shower, my boyfriend took one too, so I'm pretty sure the earring is past the trap (I snaked a zip-tie in there and fished around... pretty positive its gone.)

Does this mean my earring is already in the septic tank? Is there any way I can still get it out?

That earring means so much to me.. if anyone can help I'd be so grateful

    Thanks!
    Eva

Tough one... there is a very slim chance that it can be somewhere down the main sewer line... but most likely not so. Once it travels into 3" or 4" sewer pipe, toilet waste will push it down to the septic.

Sorry to say that... but I think, your boyfriend will be buying you a new set of earings...

Thanks for your quick reply Milo! From the sound of your answer, I won't be retrieving it unless I indulge my hands (and perhaps more) in septic waste  We've decided to make our peace with the remaining earring.

Milo nailed it. You missed your chance at retrieving the earring when you ran more water down the trap and moved the earring outinto the main. However, if you believe in miracles you can remove the strainer, take a shop-vac and vacuum out the trap in hopes it may still be down there. Good luck, Tom
