Hello I have recently started my period, well I think I have I am 13 yrs old and have noticed brown striny like discharge in my knickers so I put a pad on and told my mum, she said it was normall to have brown blood for your first time, is this true I am worried I have began to have a lot of cramps below my belly button and have been on my period for 3 days, the colour of my blood/discharge is still the same and I am not very heavy, have I started my period or not?? :confused:

Yes, you are a woman now. Your mother is right, it is not unusual for it to be brownish the first time.

Your period should last about a week, and the cramping is very normal also.

It may or may not your first time. Next month it should start either brownish, or some women start pinkish, then go to a much brighter color. Then it will go back to brownish and then stop.

This is not at all abnormal for your first time. It may take a few months for your hormones to regulate.

My daughter just started this summer too. It will take a while before everything is the same every month.

Hi my names amanda and that's an easy question for me YES and congrads that's the same way I started I'm actually 12 :p enywais that's normal when I started I had brown blod alaso you may not be regular yet so be carful but I was lucky I'm about to start myn in couple of days well soon enyway I know cause I was lucky enoph to star out regular also you should use pads if your just starting don't use tampons unless your going swimming k bye!:D ;)

My first period was sticky brown yukky , similar to what you're describing.
